My Body, My City

My Body, my city, you have taught me much.
You have surprised me around every corner.
Your fragile glass towers look out over your world
that has grown up around my feet.
Over the calm of your logical smart uptown.
The hectic and never stopping rhythm of your
downtown BEAT... Beat... beat
Even the red lights shine bright in your district
they only talk about in whispers.
The confusion of your gridlock mind leaving me in a jam.
The exhilaration of your subway speed carrying me to a night of ethical lightening storms.
The boundaries are set, yet the setting is ever changing.
Though in your alleys of sickness and shadows of decay,
you remind me that all great cities end in ruins
and the clock tower just struck noon.
